Hi, I’m Selome Welday.
I have over 6 years of experience as a product designer. Currently, I am spearheading one of Fannie Mae’s highest prioritized projects. This year, my Product was selected for “Maturity and Business Outcomes Spotlight.” It was also recognized as “Innovative Digital Projects that are Making a Difference for Customers” the previous year. I’m passionate about balancing user needs with business goals. I co-lead a “Failures Community of Practice” where we celebrate failures to stimulate growth and innovation. I’m also a part of an effort to hold up research and blueprint standards across FM. This includes knowledge sharing and creation of reusable materials.
My background includes a variety of multi-faceted roles as a designer, photo journalist, marketing specialist, researcher, and founder; enabling me to view projects holistically, have sharp visual judgement, and strategize effectively. I have worked with highly acclaimed magazine editors, pulitzer award winners, non-profit organizations, and art therapy centers. I photographed numerous NBA camps, mayor’s events, fashion weeks and celebrity red carpet events. In 2017, my redesign of University of Maryland Global Campus student portal was selected beating out 2 top agencies. In 2012, I went to Ethiopia and worked with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and covered events for the Prime Minister. My “Tribal Series” went on to be recognized not only in Ethiopia but resulted in my invitation as an honoree guest speaker at a Rotary House in Miami Shores as well as a participant at Art Basel.
